They all play some kind of role. Some may stay for a lifetime; others may only stay for a short while.

Peggy's Paper Dolls

Brian scanned the walls of the same corridor that had become so familiar to him over the past few years. As he entered through door number thirty-two, a tremendous wave of emotion swept over him, and he had to fight not to drown in it. His sister's face lit up with a vibrant smile and that special twinkle in her eyes, as it always did whenever she saw him.

Peggy was seven years old. She charmed everyone that knew her with her undying enthusiasm. She would talk non-stop to a listening ear, and she seldom cried. Peggy was dying of cancer.

Brian was at the hospital constantly, knowing that his little sister had only a short time to live. His average life as a sixteen-year old had taken a traumatic turn for the worst upon the diagnosis. He loved his sister more than anything, and found himself becoming enraged that she, such a sweet and innocent girl, should be inflicted with such a horrible disease.

Brimming with creativity, Peggy amazed Brian. She had a collection of paper dolls that she had made. All sixty-two were tacked behind her bed. Brian would ask her about the dolls, but she would always just smile, and say happily that they were her friends. He would be saddened by the fact that Peggy could not have the normal life of a seven-year-old, and make her own friends. It would only dishearten him more to watch her play with the other sick children.

Each day that passed was like a ticking time bomb for Brian. Peggy grew physically weaker by the day, but her spirit remained strong. Each one of her smiles pierced his heart. She would ask him why he looked so sad, for he found it difficult to smile, though he pretended that everything was all right. When he wasn't at the hospital, he would spend most of his time at home, alone in his room. There were times when he would bang his head uncontrollably against the wall until it hurt. He would cry, shamelessly, and throw mad fits for no reason. His life was falling apart, almost as if it was him that was dying.

It was two weeks after Peggy's eighth birthday that she passed away. Though expected, it broke Brian's heart. No amount of anticipation could have prepared him for the silence that was Peggy's passing.

As Brian forced himself to walk through door number thirty-two in the cancer ward one last time, he almost expected to see Peggy sitting on her bed. He prayed that he would see her face light up, just like it always had. It was only the emptiness and coldness of the bed that greeted him, though. He wanted to scream and smash the table lamp on the floor. He wanted to do anything to escape from the silence. Silence was a foreign entity with Peggy around, but she was gone, and its presence was so thick that it suffocated him

Then he saw the tiny paper dolls smiling back at him from the wall. Brian found a shoe box to put them in, unable to throw them away. One by one he removed them from the wall, seeing for the first time the inscriptions on the back of each: Terrah, Ivy, Nicole, Amy, Justin, Chris...and on and on. There was one name that stuck in his mind: Jesse. Jesse had been Peggy's first and best friend at the hospital. Jesse had died about one year ago. Then Brian began to recognize more names, and he realized why they seemed so familiar.

Peggy's paper dolls were all the children that had died since she had arrived. When Brian finally pulled the sixty-second doll off the wall with a quivering hand, he realized that there was one that had not been there before. It was purple, Peggy's favourite colour, with a wide crayon smile. As Brian turned the doll over and read the back, he was snapped out of his state of denial, realizing for the first time that his sister was not coming back. Tears flooded his eyes as the name, scrawled in crayon, "Peggy", screamed at him.

She had known.

In his head he could hear the sweet voice that he had known for so long, but for the first time, he understood her. All the time he had been inconspicuous, pretending that everything would turn out all right, for her benefit. (Or maybe it was for his own sake?). All along, she knew that she was going to die, yet not once did she say that it wasn't fair.

As the memories of Peggy reeled through Brian's head, he realized that he could not remember a time when she had been truly unhappy. Peggy, only a child, had accepted her disease and death as a part of her life. She faced most people's worst fear with courage, and the determination to make each day that she lived worthwhile. The dolls were a means of remembrance and symbols of life. Instead of mourning the ones that she had loved, she remembered all the joy that they had brought her. Viewing life through Peggy's eyes, Brian saw that she didn't want to be known as the girl that died of cancer, but as the girl that shone like the sun. From his perspective, each day had escorted his sister one step closer to death. Through Peggy's eyes, each day of her life gave her one more day to shine.

Wrapped up in his own sense of loss, Brian had let her illness eat away at his own mentality. Instead of being a big brother, he had given up, and now it was too late. He could have shared her life with her, if he'd only realized.

Brian looked down at the small paper doll in his hand through salty tears, and he realized that it was not too late. He could still follow in her footsteps, and learn how to seek out the best in any situation. Suddenly he felt the odd sensation of a smile. Though choked with sobs and heartache, it paved the path for more smiles in his life, that he may never have had the courage to find had it not been for Peggy's attitude. He had never realized that he knew so little about his sister, but most importantly, that he would learn so much from her, the bravest girl on earth.

From that day on, Brian learned not to dwell upon life's downsides, but to search for the positives that were sometimes hidden in the shadows of his fears.

So often do people live for the future and for what "will be", that they forget and take for granted "what is". Peggy understood that the present was a gift. Every day, she would open her gift to discover all of the splendor and happiness that it had to offer. To realize the value of the present is only half of the battle. It is having the courage and the determination to live within it that wins it.

Peggy was gone, but her memory, her heart, and all that was expressed through one child's paper dolls remained.

O levels are over, December holidays passed, another new year approached, O level results released, Chinese New year also over, Valentine's day also over and now is already the end of February'08....

TOTAL UNHAPPINESS.

mainly is after being lectured during training,
cause there is something which was super WRONG!
though none voiced out during the lecture,
but we all wasn't pleased at all deep in our heart.
saddening.
we bottled it up ourselves.

Principles which i came across few weeks back.
if we voice out, they may not listen.
Even if they listen, they may not understand.
Even if they understand, they also understand wrongly.
so wad's the point of saying out?

Everything was just only what he think,
but did he ever know what happened?
Things wasn't always as simple as what u see, think or hear.

Having these thoughts in my head:

Yesterday's training was bored without that girl around to irritate me.
totally a LONER.
But it was quite fun for me to disturb people around.

Happy Valentine's day:)

Alright, back here to post as I am in a good mood.
today was a special day as it was Valentine's day
It was a really big surprise to see a stalk of rose on our table.
aren't the guys thoughtful enough to give us rose?
And also the effort for going to school early, just to leave the rose on our tables beforehand.
looking at the rose, it really brightens up my day in school
During the school time, chocolates were given, letters given, etc.
really have to thank all our class boys for the roses,
and girls for the chocolates.
it is really pleasant to see our class getting closer to one and another as days goes by:)

a short post.

Yesterday, there was NPCC training.
the sec ones turn up for their first training.
I guess they would feel bored,
as their programmes are really bored i would say.
Muilian and Hongtat were absent.
Huihui and Siqi brought the uniforms and boots,
but in the end dint turn up.

Wanna know why??
But I don't feel like telling.

3rd Feb which is a Saturday, is ATF.
some don't wish to go, and some still deciding.
totally bored and rather time wasting.

Chem, Phy and Eng tests coming.
Time is short.
Many things aren't completed.

ARGHH.....
wait till i have the mood for next post.

we have our motivation camp from 10 jan- 12 jan.
it was totally an engaging camp for me.
Though first day didn't really motivates me that much.
but second day was totally touching for all.
we reflected on our past.
we imagined that our parents were leaving us.
Many could no longer take it, so ended up in tears.
Crying our hearts out.
the scene was totally unbearable for me, thus me ended up crying too.
Only then, we did realized that the pain of losing our love ones.
realizing the pain our parents went through when giving birth to us.
crying and crying.
the programme was really very motivating.
making us realize many things which will never ever covered in textbooks.
third day were the same.
many broke down in tears, challenging reality.
Reality is always harsh.
making us realize that its tough to succeed.
unless we were really determined to do so.

Lastly, i would like to thank the trainers, Melvin, Danny, Woei Tang,
for making the navalites realize everything.

currently doing our NCO shirt, approximately half the amount were collected.
supposedly going to go make the shirts today.
Faggot says cant go out.
YET, went out with friends.

School reopening in 3 days time, which means its Wednesday.

finally back from my Adventure Training Camp.
This year camp was much much more relax as compared to last year.
the sec 2s was as if having leisure camp, their activities was much more better than ours.
not only that, they dun even have to prepare performance for the campfire night.
first day of camp-
separated into groups.
muilian-Alpha
huihui-Bravo
siqi-charlie
basics- have ice breaker games, team building games, build tents.
it was extremely hot while building the tents, and the speed was rather slow.
so......scoldings, nagging, punish.
sweats dripping "profusely"
at night, we had our night walk.
was rather fun, but was too bright it would be better to be more dark.
some saw tombstone, etc.
who knows if it was true....
second day of camp-
had physical training. Not tiring i would say.
luiteng went home soon, as his specs was broken and gotta go hm.
then after breakfast, had our ATF.
meaning those high elements, tunnels.
yea!!...we did try those rope course and not only us, MR Joseph also tried.
We CONQUER our fear of height, though our legs was shaking uncontrollably up there.
the instructor said muilian short!!!!
rather true....uh.

next was the tunnel.
the tunnel was super short can, and they lied that there was a longer route.
supposedly after ATF, we will be having orienteering but sadly it rained.
so we were seated to sing songs, plan our performance.
soon, it was time for campfire.
due to the big rain, no choice we got to have it indoors.
meaning just a lamp and some woods. =)
sing, sing, sing, skid, skid, skid, cheers, cheers, cheers,
that's the end for the night.
had sentry duty, we were tired, walking around quietly like walking corpses.
Third day of camp-
physical training, in fact we only had warm up.
then went had breakfast and start cleaning up.
we sec 3s clean all the tentage.
again, scoldings, nagging, scoldings, nagging.
was somehow like making clay pots as it was super muddy can.
then finally break camp and giving out prizes.
lucky we got vans to bring us to jetty if not, our legs would be very wobbly.

I suppose the sec 1 and 2s should be going somewhere for NEW water thing.
but it turn out that it was canceled due to some reasons.
anyway, only four of the sec 1s turn up.
so they went with the sec 3s to amk, land division @#$$*%....
hahas...
It turn out to be more fun than the trip to the police cantonment.
this time round we din see gruesome pics anymore.
we've crime prevention talk.
the talk was rather funny as the staff sergeant officer tries to crap around.
so we also crap lo...
somehow he wasn't aware of wad he is really toking about,
and we laugh out loud at his mistakes...
as u guys know, once muilian start laughing, whole world knows.
and Mr loong was like staring at us.
wakakakas....
with their weapons,
they showed us the way they nab robberies, etc.
hong tat went to experience, the pain when they uses their T batons to arrest baddies.
after the T batons,
they wanted to show us how they use the handcuffs when arresting,
thus they wanted a volunteer.
Den siqi shouted "mr loong"
well.
all started cheering for him and he got no choice but to went up.
Indeed, he really look like a convict with his new hair style,
plus being handcuffed
haha.
everything ended with giving out little prizes and souvenirs.

Yesterday went to the police cantonment complex there for CID visit.
ONLY 6 sec3s went.
Needless to say, we were the ones who have the least amount of people.
there were many other schools, northview, hwa chong, etc..
one of the schools was sg, should be familiar?
Lol..sq was cursing them upon seeing them wearing the nco t-shirts. Pretty "NICE"
so were the rest of us.
hahas..
so we sat down to have lectures.
basically is all about solving cases, and talking about drugs.
they even showed us gruesome pictures on those victims or the crime scene.
pictures of those dead bodies, separated human body parts.
those pictures which we will never get to see on newspapers.

soon its was time to leave, and OC treat us drinks.
the guys bought, but we dint.
on the way back to school, there was traffic jam as it was peak hour.
everione was feeling giddy.
when we alighted from the bus, all the faces were veri white.
so all went home immediately.
rest well.

"happy teachers days" as you guys know, yesterdae was teachers day and aces day and of course npcc have to do marshall duty again...
so i post abt yesterdae then siqi come for the marshall duty and she is the only one bring full-u so paiseh...
cause huihui call siqi when she is still in her dreamland so siqi hear the infor half or never at all...haha...actually siqi dun want to do marshall duty de because huihui and muilian not doing...
but nvm at the end we stil never do marshall duty...haha...so lucky =p... cause yesterdae raining and rain heavily...haha =p...cause the walk was cancelled...
so happy =p...
then we go watch the concert abit bored at first...but the teacher perform was so funny especially mr loong...haha =p...
after the concert we have to give out banana to the student...
wa kao the banana is DAMN "NICE SMELL" lo...
siqi and huihui have to keep wash hand with soap =.=''....
then all the student only take the drink never take the banana...
then huiyu came down,we give her alot of banana and she take it...haha
then the rest of the banana we put it outside the HOD room dunno what will the teachers do...it was damn lot lo...haha...
after that,siqi huihui and junice go makan and go home...

okay...here to post since someone wanted me to post.
i shall post about wednesday.
we had muster parade at 4pm,
but den,
the training started at 2.30pm.
muilian thought she had left her full-u in the admin but it turn out to be at home.
of course, she went home to take lo.
den the sec 2s were scolded by CIs for not turning up on the last training.
din expect that they actually whole squad dint turn up.
and so the volcano erupted.
den after that, the sec 2s went to national heritage.
den left the sec 1s and 3s to be in the contingent for muster parade.
onli got a total of 11, if i din rmb wrongly.
everything can say went well.

of course no need to say, she was being forced to do so
den we went on to play caterpillar.
a team building game.
it was realli fun and enjoyable one.

we play scissors, paper, stone.
its rather lame, i would say.

Yesterday, muilian went to take the keys for the first time with huihui and siqi. After that they went to the admin and open the admin up.Then they discuss-ed abt e MusterParade thingy which is going to happen On 3O Aug'06. Haven even finish the discussion they went to chg, huihui n siqi went to chg.after that den is muilian n adeline nors.muilian n adeline took a long time to chg but in the end we had two mistakes each in addition to the others we got a total of abt 500+++ push ups owing.Siqi went to take the sec1s squad while huihui,muilian and adeline was in the admin doing discussion on the MusterParade again,this time with the help of him.After that the 'discussion was ended right b4 3pm. And he went to take the sec1s squad. Huihui n muilian went out of admin asked adeline to help look after the admin.Huihui went to ask him whether she could bring Hongtat n siqi for the UG meeting,because they wanted all sec3 to go if possible to vote for a camp cheif/deputy cheif.

After a few hours,came up an info that he was angry abt the sec3s for bringing so many manpower up.then the whole thing came a few X sir of ours asked us to voice out abt the proposal for the UG camp.Is not that we dunwanna voice it out just that we didnt notice them. All of the ppl discussing inside are of sec 3s so we are less Xperience.

All the UG knew abt it somehow and marcus allow us to go off.But the X-sir said that we shld settle dis once n for all.But we all think we shld go if not he will get even more angry.Then we went to the lecture of his.but less den 5 mins huihui n muilian went out of the lecture.Actually they both are really very the wad.They are like middle person one side sirs the other the other cca.

The day was just toO happening for them as KIDs.

ok gonna keep this short abt tues.
went to sch rather early as we got to prepare for the NDP in sch.
den nothing special happened,
den after that, we stayed in admin to clear things to the basement.
went on to plan about the muster parade ,
muilian and huihui went to guides room to plan about the combine camp wif other ug grps.
he* was around in the room too,
at first there wasnt anything much happen.
but he slowly started to talk alot.
Though he* did help, but afterall is the ncc who going to be the CC,
so.....
den there was one incident, which everione thinks that he's too much.
cant believe he actually pushed her, omg!
other ug say he is talking too much and he is harsh.
yupp, i personally do agree.
no choice,
afterall he holds the rank of Cadet Inspector.
after that,
go out wif huiyu, sok lei, vivian, clyde
go makan den went to play basketball.
Got to noe her friend who becomes our bb coach.

i forgot to blog about tis on the soccer training entry.
heard that from the sec ones...so damm funny.
Today as usual, had the NDO training and is full dress rehearsal.
before the it start, need to hand in the crime prevention and Sana.
den hong tat show the news on the guy thing get cut off.
huihui wanna him demo but he nvr, horny girl.
Lol.
den muilian stay in admin to do work.
had rehearsals.
that MR Teo went up is so funny lo, wakao.
okay, shant elaborate about it.
muilian was like moody and she sae is the admin work
poor girl, i think she might regret being in admin.
but truely, it is rather tough to work there.
especially under "tis" circumstances when always being suan by people.
no wonder siqi wanted to leave the admin so badly and huihui doesnt even wan to be in it.
den after the training, went 795 makan,

yesterdae got ndo training abit tired..hu noe here come the i_ _ _ _ IT* come here do nothing jus come here see see...then go behind ppl back point here point there tell my CI cannot wear the BLUE hairband...for IT* infor sch LET and i dunno he eye is glue with alot of stamp or what...some1 else oso got colour hairband(YELLOW colour) never see him go to the person back point here point there tell my CI...and if he got anything not happy with me jus tell STRAIGHT to me not need to go behind my back and tell other ppl...i think this is DISGUSTING...and i HATE this....

saturdae went to the Bedok green sec for the soccer match.
rather tired to wake up early in sat morning, watching my siblings sleeping lyk log..
reach there den sit to wait for instructions.
den first round draw, second round o-2.
of course, i need not have to say, the zero is us lo.
but nvr mind, cos
game is not about winning, is about the bondings in the team,
tat's huihui's "law". yupp
den he* treat us drinks cum food and we board the bus back.
so tired on the bus nia, almost both of us fall asleep.

Den when reach school, walk down all the way to chong pang KFC to look for 'em.
Got one free burger from them, the trip there arent wasted, eh?
stayed there talk until one plus,
huihui and siqi went to woodlands, to meet wif the rest.
board the same train as huiyu, and start to crap and laugh loudly like no one's business.
we are like the attention of everyone in that train.
we went walk walk, started to crap. siqi keep saying huiyu head big...
they laugh out loud.
but huihui is too sleepy to laugh and too tired to walk on.
den we went to makan, etc...
after that go take neoprints with those idiots.
yupp....the other 3 idiots with huihui and siqi.
went home only around 6 plus,
from the makan session till the ride on train back,
we started to talk about those topics,

todae training kinda relaxing,
siqi din came, as she went to do identity card aka IC.
Hong tat went to dental to get his tooth out.
SO, left only a few of us.
3 plus we started with the NDO trainning...
but huihui and muilian was slacking away,
and soon it was pouring heavily.
But the pouring wasnt that long and continue with training.
Hong tat had problem in his teeth and he going to put braces soon.
Then we started to talk about it in no time.
Without siqi, is rather bored cos no one there to talk craps.
woohoo, no offence, its true.
that's all then.

tomorr there is the competition for soccer.
huihui says she is tired...with so many things to be done, especially not to forget the upcoming class tests

Yesterday wed 260706,we had physical training
Siqi,HuiHui & Muilian was actuall a bit late for training nors.
Then,Siqi & muilian arrive when they were actually having soccer
game to train the soccer team(gals) for the soccer competition on 290706
First all the NCOs had a mini meeting in the admin.
Was actually about the posting and structure.
den went to the basketball court ,saw 2 gals sitting there nors.
there they held the soccer game.
When the game was very relax and casual.
muilian was got said as referee "ka you"
then was the pt.
the physical training instructor for that day was Johnny
And the sec 3s nco was expected to do 105 physical training de exercises.
then was the run~
later was the so called coquering the obstacles ^_^
and he* asked muilian to demostrate how to go up the stone wall
she manage to hang there but didnt get up
then was debrief and... HOME SWEET HOME!!!!

but siqi and huihui, din go.
On the afternoon assembly, they den know about the trainning.
"early" eh?
why din they go?
firstly, that is a last min thing, without parent's consent.
secondly, the next day tuesday, which is todae, got two tests.
thirdly, they din bring Pt kit
needless to say, that is the main REASONS they din go.

heard that he* is damm angry about this.
but what can i do?

so tired!!! yesterday got ndo training..
siqi say that she damn tired, as she have to hold rifle, the hand so pain T.T
after the training we want to 795 again to eat our dinner and
then all of us order the same food roti prata....haha =p
then ml cannot eat her food coz her teeth pain, haha
after that we start to talk crap awhile, then go home le

then todae we when to PULA UBIN actually we r very happy to go de but den, coz

okay..i shant praise her too much, or else she is going to be proud..lol

basically, we will onli blogged about our trainning..yea?
Let's blog about last training, Friday.
We went to the trainning late ard 4 plus.
as we have some sort of chinese interaction programmes.
the programme is rather boring, as we dun realli noes wad the person toking,
and huihui is lyk going to doze off at that very moment.
went to trainning and we hang around in the admin room, nothing much.
Den muilian go train sec 1 squad,
realli nothing much happened.
skipped to debrief time.
during debrief, he* say that got the soccer event.
and told us to scissors, paper, stone to chose onli one person to join.
Siqi no matter wad, die die dun wan to go and she insist on not going.
So do the rest of us, thus we din even scissors, paper, stone.
we stayed to talk about some npcc stuffs till 7 plus.
went to 795 to makan dinner till 8.30pm so.
and we balate kampong.
